English 9

CLASS CALENDAR: Due Dates and Events

Hello and welcome to the page for English 9.
A large part of the study of English is learning how to communicate effectively and part of this involves learning how other people communicate. The description of this course as found in our course syllabus makes this clear:
This course is designed to develop the oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy skills that you will need for success in the secondary school academic and applied programs and in your daily life. We will analyze literary texts from contemporary and historical periods, interpret informational and graphic texts, and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms. An important focus will be on the use of strategies that contribute to effective communication.

Communication is, literally, learning. It is how we take in information from the world. When we communicate with other people, whether it be through talking or writing or reading, we learn about them. When we participate in language, we engage in dialogue, we dialogue (verb). One of the definitions of the word “dialogue” is ” to exchange ideas and opinions.” This is what language is all about: dialoguing.
